A Loving Home Until Their Person Comes Home

Deployment should never force a service member to give up the dog they love. The Barracks provides dog foster care for deployed service members by connecting them with carefully screened foster families. These temporary foster homes for service members’ dogs offer safe, stable, and loving care until their people return.

​

Service members who already have a trusted caretaker may designate that individual or family as their Barracks foster family for the deployment. This allows the dog to remain with someone they may already know while giving the caretaker access to the coordination, communication, and support provided through Operation WarDDawgs™. When a caretaker has not already been identified, The Barracks helps match the dog with a qualified foster family from its network.

 

Every placement is thoughtfully coordinated around the individual dog, the service member, and the foster family. As part of our military pet foster care program, Operation WarDDawgs™ remains involved throughout the deployment monitoring the dog’s well-being, helping foster families navigate changing needs, and keeping service members connected through regular photos and progress updates.

This temporary dog foster care during deployment gives service members the reassurance of knowing their dogs are safe, loved, and supported while they fulfill their responsibilities. When deployment ends, we help bring them safely back together because every placement has one ultimate goal: reunion.
